According to our ancestors, we already used our orientation to guide us, making use of the different senses: sight, sound, touch (changes in the wind, cold, heat…).
Those who most used their senses in this regard were inhabitants of the North Pole and the deserts. But orientation is necessary for everyone, from these people, to the people living in large cities and small towns, to children when they’re young, to animals who are attracted to lights, to those that migrate south because of the weather….
It is an essential element for our lives in which we use a wide range of resources. In orienteering races, in addition to using a map and compass, participants also use strength, speed or endurance, psychology, and other psychological and physical elements to complete the race and find the control points.
The goal is to find all the control points on the map in the shortest time possible.
